However in measuring these parameters one must also understand the greater environmental issue. To comment on the quality of the indoor environment one must take into account the external environment as in most cases the fresh air component is derived from this source.
Much of the equipment used in the evaluation of indoor air environments can also be used just as efficiently in the outside environment.
Equipment such as our Laser Dustrak's when housed in there environmental casings have proved invaluable for measuring particulate levels.
For the external environmental the outer case is used with built in long term batteries and as such the instrument can be set up to measure 24hr PM10, PM 2.5 or PM1.0. This unit with full charge can measure up to six days continuously.
The advantage with this type of equipment is that results are real time and the entire sampling period is data-logged. Associated software can then provide statistical data as well as graphed information over the sampling period. The unit is also able to be linked to alarms which are set to desired trigger levels.
