Noise

- Workplace surveys.

- Personal monitoring for compliance with exposure limits / provision of correct hearing protective devices.

- Environmental monitoring for compliance with Local Authority bylaws / Resource Management Act.

Recent (July 2002) changes to the Approved Code of Practice for the Management of Noise in the workplace (1996) and the AS/NZS 1269.1: 2005 – Measurement and Assessment of Noise Immission and Exposure, may well place many organizations outside these current requirements. These changes include such areas as i; Measurement and assessment of noise emission and exposure, ii; Noise control management, iii; Hearing protector program, iv; Auditory assessment. Our consultants have a range of sophisticated equipment designed to help determine whether your workplace complies with these changes.

Where an activity produces noise which may affect neighboring properties, resource consent under the Resource Management Act may be required. The noise rules which apply in most circumstances are set down in territorial local body District Plans. Noise monitoring requirements are specified in each consent and will include a reference to the monitoring standard which must be used for measurement and assessment. Standards typically referenced are NZS 6801 : 1991, Measurement of Sound and NZS 6802 : 1991, Assessment of Environmental Sound or their 1999 revisions, and NZS 6803 : 1999, Acoustics-Construction Noise. Monitoring must be done by a competent person as defined in the standards.
